Meet Jake Arzt
Jake Arzt is an AHPRA registered acupuncturist and doctor of Chinese medicine currently practising in Fitzroy North (3068) and Caulfield South (3162). He completed his formal training in Melbourne with a bachelor of Health Science (Chinese Medicine), before complementing his studies with an internship in Taiwan. There he underwent extensive clinical training at Tsu Chi Hospital in Taipei, ultimately inspiring his client-centred and results driven approach to practise.
He views health as a constant process that feels empowering when one aligns with their right path. A pillar of his practise is simultaneously treating clients within the clinic room, while also helping to inform their life decisions when they return to their everyday. Jake is dedicated to creating a supportive and safe space for all people regardless of age, gender, colour or culture. He is a positive force with a great capacity for empathy, and passionate about making his clients feel heard and understood.
Devoted to a “roots and branch” philosophy, he find himself looking beyond the symptomatic manifestation to address the core underlying imbalances (the root cause). Employing this framework Jake helps individuals not only with acute pain and surface-level issues, but also with deep-seated chronic conditions that impact both the mind and body.
Jake is not an image of perfect health, he too is on a journey of self-observation and learning. This process informs and frames his practice. When appropriate he enjoys sharing relevant personal insights and reflections, and prefers to facilitate a discussion about one’s health rather than prescribing rigid counsel.
Jake’s connection to Chinese medicine started at a young age. His father studied at the Academy of Chinese Medicine in Northcote in the 90s and employed his training to treat both Jake and his sister throughout their upbringing. Together with his mother, a yoga teacher for over 30 years based in Balaclava/Caulfield, they shaped his understanding of the concept and dynamic of Qi. These valuable experiences from both his parents have been instrumental in Jake’s journey with Chinese medicine. He is grateful to them each for giving him the gift of his own personal practise, which continues to support his work and allows him to smoothly traverse life.
His diverse landscape of interests including beekeeping, food fermentation and natural farming, ultimately shaped his engagement with herbal medicine and inspired his classical methods. Jake’s expertise in acupuncture utilise Channel theory, Master Tung, Balance method and motor-point activation. His herbal prescriptions follow the teachings of the Shang Han Lun and Jin Gui Yao Lue, the classical methods of Chinese herbal medicine. By skilfully diagnosing the radial pulse, he prescribes classical herbal formulae that optimise the major body systems.
He is a proud member of the Australian Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine Association (AACMA) and registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
